FIS Alpine World Championships 2021, will take place in Cortina-d'Ampezzo from February 8-21. Men's and ladies' downhill, super-G and slalom events will be featured in the competition.
Also, there will be an alpine mixed event for both men & women. This new competition is a great way to bring together athletes from different disciplines and see how they do on a combined race course.
Olympic medalists who have competed at previous Games are expected to attend the Olympics in Beijing. They will be competing for more gold medals than 33 across 11 events, with the first being the mixed-team competition. The list of favorites includes reigning champion Mikaela Shiffrin and defending champion Alexis Pinturault of France, as well as a host of rising stars looking for their debut in the alpine world cup arena.

Team USA will have 21 athletes competing at the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Mikaela Shifrin, four-time slalom gold medalist, along with Breezy Johnson (three-time giant slalom, two-time super G champion) are leading the charge. There are many more exciting names such as Katie Hensien AJ Hurt Isabella Wright Jett Seymour River Radamus and Jett Seymour.
Athletes have been training for weeks on the Roc de Fer and L'Eclipse pistes in Meribel, where both men's and women's parallel slalom medal races will be held. This is the first competition that will split competitions between two venues. It'll be a challenging test for both men & women.
Natalie Geisenberger (German luge queen) is one to keep an eye on, as well Felix Loch (Switzerland), who is a triple-Olympic Gold medalist. Both of these athletes have performed well in the luge in recent weeks, and it's a good bet that they'll start the race.
There's plenty of depth on Austria's men's side too. Matthias Mayer is the medalist and Vincent Kriechmayr is the one to watch. They haven't won any World Cup downhill races this season but they've been strong in other events so could be in the running for a medal.

Ryan Cochran Siegle (American) is another person to keep an eye on. He has been doing well in both speed and technical races. He is a strong contender in the alpine combined, and is in a great position to win his first World Cup Downhill medal.
Both Sofia Vasic from Sweden and Evgeny Arbatov from Russia are expected to challenge for the super-G podium. However, they are not at their best. Their best performances are in the smaller events. So, if they want the chance to compete for Olympic glory, they will have to find their groove at larger events.
The GB U21 Alpine skiers were in action at this week's FIS World Junior Championships Bansko 2021. Abi Bruce (left) and Liv Foster (right) both put in solid performances. Since 2000 when Chemmy Acott and Amanda Pirie were ranked respectively in Quebec, Canada, this marks the first appearance of two women from GB in the top 30, in any Alpine discipline.
